Tarboro Association of Saltwater Sportsman

TASS stands for Tarboro Association of Saltwater Sportsman

The purpose of TASS is to provide an organization for people in Edgecombe County or who have ties to Edgecombe County with a common interest in fishing and fun to come together. Community Service became its aim. Through funds raised from various projects, TASS has donated picnic tables to city park, established a scholarship at Edgecombe Community College , and promoted fishing fun for kids.

TASS has come along way since its inception. This has been accomplished by many dedicated and supportive individuals who have given their time and energy to make things happen. As leaders continue to step forward, the organization will remain a viable club offering a unique opportunity for people in Edgecombe County to come together through their common interest in fishing!

Bring a Kid Fishing at Pell & Lisa Guill's Pond Party

Every year Pell & Lisa Guill invites everyone to bring “ALL KIDS” to their house for a lot of fun, to fish in the pond, and eat hot dogs. When TASS says “ALL KIDS” we mean your kids, nephews, nieces, cousins, brothers, sisters, neighbor’s kids, friend’s kids, and any kid you know. This is one of the most exciting events of the year!

John Cherry Memorial Rockfish Rodeo on the Tar

Every year TASS host the John Cherry Memorial Rockfish Rodeo on the Tar. John Cherry, son of Robert and Jo Cherry, passed away at age 23 in November 2003 after a courageous battle with Batten Disease. John loved the Tar River and fishing with his Dad. This annual event is named in his honor. This worthwhile event raises money to fund the John Cherry Memorial Scholarship at Edgecombe Community College and other TASS supported community projects.
The results are in! The TASS organized 2010 John Cherry Rockfish Rodeo on the Tar is in the history books. Thirty-four boats with approximately 75 fishermen and women participated in this year’s event. The total weight of two rockfish per boat was used to calculate winning boat/team placement.
